Saying no to plastic utensils

Oct 15, 2008 : Going Green : by Carmen

As a team, Deelicious Web Design has been coming up with more and more ideas for going green.  One idea that came out of our brainstorming was giving up our usage of plastic utensils. This might seem minor, but every little idea helps in our green campaign. We did the calculations and found that we were throwing away 25 plastic utensils every week. That’s 1,300 utensils per year being thrown out after just one use! We thought this was crazy and what’s even crazier is that we decided to do more dishes! Instead of using plastic forks, spoons and knives, we have brought in our stainless steel utensils from home. Now after every use we just wash them and use them again the next day. Yes, this does take a little more time than just opening a garbage lid, but on the bright side, our hands will be nice and soft!

No More Paper Faxes!

Aug 19, 2008 : Going Green : by Deanna

The Issue: Printing a document to fax is a paper waster!

Carmen has been pushing the team to be more environmentally friendly lately and I have to agree it’s a great goal to strive for. So in our first efforts to make Deelicious Web Design more green, I tackled our faxing practices. True, this first “going green” campaign was prompted by the fax feeder making a dreadful sound and dying without grace, but it made me ponder why we print out most documents we fax, then scan them to the client. What a waste of paper!

The Solution: Good thing I was on a mission, because this took 3 days of technical support to complete. We currently have in-house 3 Macs and an HP 7410 All-in-one printer. After downloading the most recent driver for our printer from the HP website, I now have a new option on my printer settings which allow me to type in a number and send the file from my computer directly to the fax, without printing on an innocent sheet of paper!  Not only am I excited to reduce our paper use, but the cost of ink will hopefully diminish as well. Could I be saving money and the environment? Maybe Carmen deserves a raise….
