An unexpected discount…why didn’t I think of that!

What a brilliant idea…

I received my custom blended tea today from one of my favorite clients, Design a Tea, and found the following note inside:

What a pleasant surprise! I think I would have been pleased with even a $1 as having a company care enough to give a discount for no reason made me incredibly happy with the product before I even used it. Great marketing idea, Brian!

PS. If you like coconuts, the pina-colda leaves a great aftertaste!

Be a Search Savy Ecommerce Shopper!

Have you ever made a purchase online and wished you had the magic word to type in the coupon/discount box? Darn, if only you had bought the item during a sale or had a gift card…it’s like the coupon code box is laughing at you. Well no one makes a fool of a terrier! Every time I see the opportunity to enter a coupon code while checking out online, I open a new window and search for coupons available from the vendor.

For example, if I was shopping at PetSmart.com, I would type into google “PetSmart coupon code” or “PetSmart discount code”. It might take a few websites to find a code that hasn’t expired or actually works, but it never hurts to try an invalid coupon.

So next time your shopping online and see that empty box, spend a few minutes trying to find a free discount. Last night my coupon search saved me $75 off my order and I found the coupon in less than 2 minutes! With all the money you’ll save, you could send this pooch some well deserved doggy treats!

Resist checking that email!

Have you ever noticed how often you check your email? I have a habit of leaving my mail program open all day and waiting for that magic sound to signal I have a new message. But what happens when you hear that ding? Most often you read the note and perhaps reply, but you’ve directed your attention to a task that wasn’t important a second ago. That’s why I’ve started a new habit: checking my email only twice day. Because I’m so popular with the DWD clients, I’ve included in my email signature the following message to let people know I’m not ignoring their compliments:

**Emails are reviewed at 11am & 4pm EST. If you have an urgent message, please call!

I haven’t received any complaints from my avid fans and yet I’m able to finish my projects without mindless interruptions, making me one productive pooch!

In addition to checking my email less often, I’ve found the productivity concept of “Inbox Zero” to be quite time saving as well. Check out Merlin Mann‘s discussion on email productivity to the Google staff:
